The General
English Intermediate course:
Vocabulary Expansion: The course introduces a
wider range of vocabulary across various topics, such as lifestyle,
entertainment, environment, technology, society, and more. It aims to enhance
students' vocabulary repertoire, enabling them to express themselves in greater
depth and engage in more sophisticated conversations.
Grammar: English File Intermediate covers a
range of grammar points to strengthen students' understanding and usage of
English grammar. Topics may include verb tenses (including all past tenses),
conditionals (third and mixed conditionals), reported speech (including
reporting questions and commands), passive voice, relative clauses, modal verbs
(including deduction), and more.
Speaking and Listening: the course provides
extensive opportunities for students to practice speaking and listening skills.
It includes discussions, debates, role plays, and listening activities that
encourage students to engage in extended conversations, express opinions,
negotiate and persuade, and comprehend English spoken in various contexts.
Reading:
We work a variety of reading texts, such as articles, interviews,
reports, and short stories, to further develop students' reading comprehension
skills. The texts are designed to be more challenging than those in the
Pre-intermediate level and cover a range of engaging and relevant topics.
Writing: The course includes writing exercises
and tasks that encourage students to practice their writing skills at an
intermediate level. These may involve writing formal and informal emails,
letters, reviews, reports, opinion essays, and narratives, focusing on coherent
organization, accuracy, and appropriacy of language.
Pronunciation: In the course, pronunciation
practice continues in the Intermediate level, aiming to further refine
students' pronunciation, intonation, and listening skills. It may include
exercises on connected speech, stress patterns, intonation in different
contexts, and distinguishing between similar sounds.
Cultural Awareness: In the course cultural
aspects of English-speaking countries may be explored, providing students with
insights into different cultures, traditions, and social norms.
